Newly Renovated in Fall 2012 – Just Re-Opened on December 1st, 2012!
With its beachfront location and tropical pool scene, the Riu Palace Mexico is the perfect hub for relaxation.
The Riu Palace Mexico is set on Playacar’s white-sand beach – just walk through the hotel’s palm-speckled gardens and you’ll reach it. It’s easy to get out and about from here – you’re less than a five-minute taxi ride from the shops and restaurants in Puerto del Carmen.
You’ll find two large swimming pools on the edge of the gardens, one of which features a pretty mosaic of a hibiscus flower, and has the added bonus of a swim-up bar. Both pools are flanked by sun-trap terraces, and a poolside waiter service means cocktails are delivered directly to your lounger.

The resort was amazing and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and fun vacation. The staff was top notch, always friendly, attentive and accommodating. I cannot say enough about how wonderful the staff was! They really know how to make sure their guests have a great vacation. The grounds were beautiful and pristinely kept. The beach had plenty of chairs to lounge on, both in the sun and in the shade. The water was completely clear and the beach was rock-free. It was one of the best beaches I saw. The pool bar was great for a swim up drink and the staff walked around constantly bringing drinks. The food was good, with multiple restaurants (need a reservation) and a large buffet. Guests also have access to the other resorts for breakfast and lunch (and drinks). Playacar complex (a completely safe area full of homes and resorts-they have security at the entrance) and it’s an easy walk into Playa del Carmen.
In terms of dining, you’ve got six restaurants to choose from, including an international buffet eatery, a steakhouse and an Italian trattoria. You’ll find plenty of stylish spots for after-dinner drinks, too. The theatre, for example, is all polished dark wood and plush velvet armchairs. Plus, this place is getting a refurb for the end of 2012, so the hotel’s interiors are set to get even better.
The resort is set beachfront in close proximity to four other Riu hotels as part of the acclaimed Playacar resort complex. This unique clustering of Riu properties means that instead of simply enjoying one, as a Guest you can savor the restaurants, bars, entertainment and activities at several different Riu resorts!
On its own, the Riu Palace Mexico offers you the supreme luxury, elegance, and amenities specially reserved for the Riu Palace resorts. Within the 5-resort Riu complex, numerous unmatched facilities enable you to enjoy almost every type of leisure activity available! The Riu Palace Mexico is styled like a Spanish palace. This gleaming white hotel contains a granite-floored lobby with ornately painted recessed ceilings, a stained-glass ceiling, crystal chandeliers, pink columns with carved, mahogany-stained bases and caps, tapestries, and plants in ceramic pots. A veranda faces the sea.
The resort primarily attracts romance-minded couples and other adults, but families with children are also welcomed. One pool features a jetted section, swim-up bar and activities; while another geometric pool flanked by gardens and two-person lounging beds provides leisurely swimming. A spa tub sheltered by a cupola offers stunning ocean views as well.

Excellent hotel with a grand lobby and beautiful grounds with some wild animals running around at night which wasn’t a problem. They were nice to see and didn’t bother you. large swimming pool with plenty of loungers and even more on the beach. Very friendly staff. Food was good with plenty of choice and also tried most of the a la carte restaurants which were nice. The beach itself had lovely fine sand with lots of small shells in but wasn’t rough on your feet. And beautiful clear waters with a light tide. It sometimes got busy there but was so big you could just move somewhere else if you so wish. Would definitely go back again!
