Treat your family to the all-inclusive getaway of their dreams without breaking the bank at beachfront Riu Merengue in Puerto Plata. The two-story bungalows of this village-style resort are part of the immense Riu Resort complex along with Riu Bachata. More than three acres of lush tropical gardens provide a backdrop for all the food, drinks and fun that families crave thanks to the all-inclusive package.
Lounge chairs stud the beach in the secluded Bay of Maimon, and families don’t have to wake up at dawn for good seats. Soak up the sun while the kids splash in the surf and build sand castles. An expansive pool area has grown-ups catching rays on loungers while little ones paddle around the kid’s section. When it’s time to eat, four resort restaurants satisfy picky eaters. At dinner, half of the Macumba buffet serves a la carte Italian, like zesty seafood linguini, while the other half serves up choice cuts of juicy beef. Six bars keep the action going after dark; head to La Rumba Lounge for a frosty rum punch before showing off your dance moves at Pacha, the resort’s disco.
Riu Merengue is a nice place to go and relax, enjoy and have lots of fun with not only the turist that visit the hotel but with all the crew that entertain the guess. Nice rooms, excellent food all day long and sooooo clean, it was a pleasure to be there.

It is hard to find fault with our week at the Riu Merengue. Perfect weather. Everything was wonderful. This was our 6th Riu experience and by far the best. Of course the Caribbean helps! Soft sand, warm seas, blue skies. The beach area is great as there are trees for shade right up to the shoreside. All facilities and rooms a short walk away. A great advantage to be able to use the resources at the Bachata and Mambo. Meant that you did not bored with the same pool and restaurant. Hotel staff make great efforts with hygiene and cleanliness. I recommend the yoga stretching sessions on the beach every morning…. with the light wind, palm trees, butterflies and birds it was sheer heaven!
